Cuckoo For Coconuts

The coconut tree is extremely valued as both a source of food and medicine among Asian Pacific populations, so much so that it’s often called "The Tree of Life."

Charisa and Carmina fondly remember watching their grandma making coconut oil in her small kitchen. It was a meticulous process but she refused to cut corners. To her, making the purest, tastiest, most nutritious coconut oil was a labor of love.

CocoTherapy was born out of nothing more than a desire to create something really special, a coconut oil that a beloved grandmother would be proud to call her own. This philosophy is the foundation of every CocoTherapy product.

A strong belief in the total wellbeing of all living things and a lifelong reverence for coconuts has become a mission to share the very best coconut oil on the planet with as many pets as possible.

It’s All About The Nuts

Well, it’s all in the details, from the nuts to the processing. There are a number of factors that impact the quality of coconut oil, which results in a wide variety of quality and price in the market today. The main factors that impact quality of coconut oil is the age, type and variety of the coconuts used, and the process used to make the oil.

The higher the quality of the coconut oil, the more effective it is. Selecting the highest quality oil will ensure that you and your pet will receive the maximum health benefits from coconut oil. There are two main factors to consider when looking for a high quality coconut oil. It should have the highest lauric acid content possible, using organic, non-GMO and non-hybrid coconuts. And it should have the lowest possible moisture content. The method used to extract the coconut oil determines how low the moisture content is in the oil.

There are many brands of coconut oil out there, but do you know where they get their coconuts? At CocoTherapy, not only do they manufacture their own coconut oil and chips, they also grow and harvest their own coconuts on their own coconut plantation.

The majority of coconut oil manufacturers do not own coconut farms. They purchase their coconuts from a number of small independent farmers, often buying from multiple farmers who may or may not be USDA organic inspected farms. And these farmers generally have their own cultivating practices and harvesting schedules, which affects the quality of the coconuts.

CocoTherapy coconuts come from one farm, their farm. Why is that important? The quality of their coconuts is consistent from batch to batch. Their coconuts are harvested at the optimum time, no earlier, no later. And their coconuts are opened and used between four to eight hours after harvesting. Did we mention the CocoTherapy farm is USDA organic inspected, and they never use hybrid or genetically modified coconuts.

The good people at CocoTherapy put a lot of time and effort into making sure that you’re getting the best oil possible, manufactured to the highest standards in the industry. From the careful selection of the coconuts, to the methods used in creating the final product, CocoTherapy coconut oil is the purest, freshest, premium quality human-grade oil available. You can count on their coconut oil to be 100% pure and natural, cold pressed from raw, non-GMO, organic coconuts, and guaranteed free from hexane, bleach and trans fat.

They're Kind of a Big Deal

Lipid researchers are becoming increasingly familiar with the incredible health benefits of a unique group of saturated fats found in coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is the richest natural source of medium chain triglycerides (MCT), which is a medium chain fatty acid (MCFA). Most of coconut oil's health benefits come from medium chain fatty acids. Medium chain fatty acids consists of caprylic, capric and lauric acids.

The most abundant medium chain fatty acid (MCFA) found in coconut oil is lauric acid, which is considered responsible for many of coconut oil's health benefits. Coconut oil is about 50% lauric acid. The only other abundant source found in nature is in human breast milk, undoubtedly one of the most perfect foods found in nature. The medium chain fatty acids in breast milk improve nutrient absorption, aid digestive function, help regulate blood sugar levels, and protect from harmful microorganisms. And the antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties of these vital fatty acids offer key support for the immune system.

Dr. Mary Enig, a Ph.D. nutritionist/biochemist and one of the world's leading authorities on fats and oils, states, "Lauric acid in coconut oil is formed into monoglyceride monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria including listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia. Some studies have also shown some antimicrobial effects of lauric acid."

Additionally, coconut oil has been shown to have powerful anti-oxidative effects. It is well established that dietary coconut oil reduces the need for vitamin E, and may provide a significant source of antioxidants. As an antioxidant, it is 50 times more potent than Vitamin E, 15 times more potent than carrots, and 300 times more potent than tomatoes. This makes it incredibly stable, showing no signs of rancidity after a year of storage at room temperature. So yeah, these medium chain triglycerides are kind of a big deal.

Pay It Forward

CocoTherapy believes that social responsibility and support for dogs and all animals is an important part of their mission. Aside from donating to numerous fund-raising events and animal organizations in the United States, CocoTherapy supports an animal welfare organization in the Philippines, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

In a country faced with numerous economic and social issues, the welfare of animals is often the last thing people think about and frequently ignored. Too many animals are homeless and wander the streets, often sick or malnourished. In addition, these stray animals continue to produce litters, adding to the ever-growing population of feral cats and dogs.

In an effort to pay it forward, CocoTherapy has chosen to work closely with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) by donating regularly both financially and in-kind. PAWS is a private, non-profit organization, which receives no funding from the government, and relies solely on the funds generated through fund-raising and private/individual donations.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) runs the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC), which is the first real animal shelter in the country. With the help of dedicated staff and volunteers, the PARC cares for over 500 dogs and cats each year, providing shelter, food, and medical care to the countless number of animals who are victims of cruelty and neglect.

Most of the animals brought into the shelter have never known the human-animal bond, so every animal brought into the PARC is given as much love and attention as possible in order to rehabilitate them and make them adoptable. The PARC runs an aggressive campaign and adoption program to try to find loving permanent homes for these animals.

In addition, the PARC serves as a center for charitable veterinary services, catering to the pets of the low-income sector by providing education on responsible pet ownership, as well as low-cost spay and neutering services.

The tireless work and effort that the amazing, dedicated staff and volunteers do every day for these animals at the PARC is truly awe inspiring. Their work not only directly affects the animals in their care; but also helps people in the Philippines become aware they are ultimately responsible for the welfare of their animals.

Who the Howl is Organic Pet Boutique?

We’re a small family business inspired by a lifelong love of pets. Something as simple as a cat or a dog to one person is so much more to us. Our pets are more than just cats and dogs; they're a cherished part of our family. We feel incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to do something that we love everyday.

Driven by our passion to help, we identified a massive need for change in the pet industry and set out to make an impact. Our business is predicated on delivering value to our clients. We’re here to help you navigate all of the lies and deception in our industry. We take this responsibility very personally.

We’re Chad & Natasha. We believe in honesty and transparency in all aspects of our business. We’re honored and humbled each time someone chooses to support our boutique. All of our clients are valued and respected. We're always here to help. Please let us know how we can better serve you and your pets.

We’ve been amazingly fortunate to have adopted several beautiful animals over the years. Throughout those years our shelter pets have enriched our lives beyond belief. As a small token of our appreciation we donate a portion of all boutique profits to our favorite charity, the SPCA Los Angeles.

We've been quietly doing our thing for more than a decade now. We're not here to be the next big thing. We're here to build the best small business we can. We refuse to compromise our values in pursuit of profits, and we'll never back down in our commitment to you and your pets.

We work hard to bring you a lovingly curated pet marketplace, one with three times the love. If we don't love the company, love the people and love the products they create, you won't find it here, period. So we don't always offer every product our partners create, and we don't offer all the products we love.
